Weed Does A Body Good

Weed workouts… Pro or Con?

I’ve been asking people what they think of weed workouts.

Considering I’m a dedicated stoner, I ask my fellow stoner friends… Do you do Weed Workouts? The consensus is that half of the people asked, “What is a weed workout?” When I tell them that it’s using weed to enhance working out they laugh and say, “yeah right! I’m all about laying on the couch after I’ve smoked” The thought of working out and getting going gives a visceral effect for some at the mere mention of something other than munching out and being a couch potato. The other half is completely pro. The resounding feedback from the pro-weed workout stoners was that they used cannabis to push through the pain, to achieve greater results, i.e.- toner, leaner body. The other positive feedback was that cannabis was also helpful to focus more on body control, movement, and overall precision. I call it “getting into the flow”. So is there a great divide between the two diverse groups? Maybe not, I’m hoping to inspire those stoners out there that have not tried it.

First off, what is a weed workout?

A weed workout is when a person smokes, vapes, or ingests cannabis before, sometimes during, and after workouts to achieve greater results.

I am pro-weed workout, and I am passionate about the positive effects weed gives while working out. I personally use cannabis throughout my workouts to focus and isolate muscles. When I was a stripper, I used to get high all day (it was wonderful). I used to push through my shifts with a great attitude every single day.  Conversely, when I was in nursing school, I taught Pilates at LA Fitness in Upland, CA. I used to want to use cannabis to push through my classes, but because I was in nursing school, I was not able to use it at all. I didn’t enjoy my workouts then. I used to dread going to work. I did it because I knew I needed exercise, and I also did it because I enjoyed helping people get fit. It is my passion to help people feel better about themselves, but I did not always teach class with enthusiasm, which is bad for a group class vibe. I’ve always felt my best when smoking weed on a daily basis. I also am a huge advocate of smoking a joint before a 4-5 mile walk. I use the edibles to enhance workouts also. The high lasts very long, so one can really get into the flow of their workout to gain cardiovascular health. I have found sometimes when first pushing myself on a walk uphill a mile, at first it seems impossible my chest starts to fire up, and my breathing becomes labored. I push through that pain with ease because of the relief of pain I achieve through the use of cannabis. I am able to push myself further than without. Once the initial pain dissipates, I am left with a euphoric feeling throughout the rest of the 2-4 miles. I love listening to music while I grind my workouts out.

In my toning, I am able to push through to complete more reps and to isolate muscles for proper form. I listen to music through my toning regimen because I can grind out my reps, before I know it; my high starts to wear off. I start to get a little lazy at the last part of the high, so I decide to smoke a little more mid-reps to keep going. The workouts seem to last longer and longer. I find myself going on long walks, and I also do 15-20 minutes of toning 3x a day. It’s a winning combination for me. Workouts are a reward to me. I look forward to them now with the use of cannabis, and I am ultimately happier throughout my workouts, which also helps for less stress.

As I stated, some stoners cannot fathom getting off their couch if it doesn’t’ involve the fridge, snacks, or beverages. When I tell them that I smoke during my workouts, they are even more baffled. Most people ask if I smoke a sativa. I say I prefer sativa dominant hybrids, but I can smoke an indica and go for a walk. It doesn’t always have to be a fast walk. I can go out just to enjoy the day and the nature. A chill vibe on a walk can be very meditative. I organically go with how I feel on a day-to-day basis. I believe that a person can re-train their brain to get used to weed workouts.

As I have referenced in my first article titled, “Weed Does A Body Good”, I described and dissected the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is the body’s regulatory system. It helps to regulate a person’s metabolic rate, blood pressure, and more. When I look back on my 35 years of smoking weed, I can definitely say with confidence that I have gotten in better shape as I have gotten older. In fact, I will be 50 years old this year. Cannabis, used in conjunction with diet and exercise, has created a winning combination for me. I have been able to achieve a higher level of health and fitness. I hope I have inspired you to try a weed workout, if you have not already.
